Suds n' such.

I'm interested in making my own soap so that I don't have to buy commercial brand soap anymore. I'm thinking of just using the Melt And Pour method, with maybe a fragrance, and a regular old mold. I've also heard you can use organic food coloring to give it color. My question is, for those of you who make your own soap (whichever method you use), is the cost really that much lower than buying it in the store? I typically buy Irish Spring for the scent, but sometimes I like stuff from The Body Shop. Each bar there is about 4 dollars.

Thanks.
